Inspiration
As a child, I had been listening to The Doors music on my father's tapes and records and by my early teens, I had tattooed every keyboard part that Ray Manzarek played into my head. I was familiar with his work with The Doors before I even knew who he was.
He was one of my biggest influences in learning about improvisation. His playing introduced me to the sounds of the Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer keyboards. Learning his honky tonk and rock piano licks gave me an insight into how to play along with guitar bass and drums. Speaking of bass, not many people know that his left hand was doing the bass playing in the group.
