It's Buddy Guy's birthday today. A critically acclaimed blues guitarist and singer, I just love that he's the real deal - an authentic blues man. I saw him live at the Congress Center and his presence was unbelievable. He was an incredible showman: the power of his voice along was inspiring.
I was introduced to the blues at an early age in my piano lessons. My teacher used this song, Messin' With the Kid, as an example for me to learn about the blues and how to improvise. Buddy Guy recorded on a version of Messin' With the Kid, and so I thought it would be a fitting one to play today. Plus I was able to dig up some old footage of myself practicing and then playing this same song at a recital, 23 years ago. Enjoy!
