Today was my dad's last day as a teacher at Holy Spirit School. He is officially retired and while I know he can't wait to start the next chapter of his life, I know he will dearly miss both the students and the teachers he worked with and they will miss him too. My dad is a pretty great guy. He worked hard at his job, and if you ask any of his co-workers they will tell you how he keeps the mood in the staff room jovial with his stories and jokes.
I have been extremely fortunate for nearly ten years for the opportunity to work along side my dad as a music educator in both the Blues In The Schools program and many other musical school functions where I learned so much from him in an environment most musicians don't normally get to experience. Every year I have the privilege of being invited to the school to play Christmas carols for the entire school as they sing along at the top of their little lungs.
And so today for the last time with my dad running the show, we had a great sing along with the our extended family we like to call - Holy Spirit School. Happy retirement Dad!
